When you deregister a vehicle, you need to hand in the number plates to a number plate provider or to one of the vehicle registration offices of the Danish Motor Vehicle Agency (Motorstyrelse). Your insurance company will be notified automatically.

The Danish Motor Vehicle Agency charges DKK 60 for deregistering a vehicle. Number plate providers (nummerpladeoperatører) set their own prices. (Link in Danish but enter your postal code to find the one nearest to you).

Our vehicle registration offices accept cash, Dankort and Visa/Dankort.

We will stop charging you regular taxes when you deregister your vehicle.

You will be refunded any overpaid tax related to your vehicle.

The new owner must re-register the vehicle within four weekdays from the date of purchase. Otherwise, you can ask us to deregister the vehicle:

  1. Log on to E-tax for individuals (TastSelv Borger)
  2. Select ‘Kontakt' (Contact) and then ‘Skriv til os' (Write us).
  3. Select ' Bil og motor' (vehicle and then ‘Registrering/nummerplader' (Registration/number plates) and then 'Afmeld Køretøj' (Deregister vehicle).
  4. Enter your message and attach the sold note stating the name and address of the buyer and the date of sale.
  5. Enter your phone number and perhaps enter a time for us to call you.
  6. Click 'Send' (Send).

You can also deregister the vehicle in one of our vehicle registration offices. Please bring the sold note stating the name and address of and the date of sale. If you do not have a sold note, we will deregister the vehicle three weeks after the day you requested deregistration.
