The primary owner can order a new registration certificate in the Register of Motor Vehicles. It will be sent by regular post to the person registered as the primary owner of the vehicle.

Log on to the Register of Motor Vehicles and select ‘Registration' (Registration) - 'Bestil registreringsattest' (Order registration certificate).

You can also order copies of the registration certificate at DKK 100 apiece. Please note that copies cannot be used for re-registration purposes.

When you order a new registration certificate from one of our vehicle registration offices, you need to prove that you own or use the vehicle. Please bring power of attorney, invoice, sold note or a copy from the bailiff's register.

A registration certificate costs DKK 100. Our vehicle registration offices accept cash, Dankort and Visa/Dankort.

If you have lost part of your registration certificate, you need to bring the part you still have.

Your order receipt is your temporary registration certificate.

The registration certificate only lists one owner and one user of the vehicle. If there are more owners or users, this is stated in the Register of Motor Vehicles.

The primary owner is authorised to delete, make corrections and add owners and users. Doing so is considered a re-registration and a fee of DKK 340 is charged if you do it yourself.

Re-registration (change of ownership/change of user)

In Denmark, you do not normally have to bring your registration certificate in your car.

However, you must bring Part 1 or a copy of Part 1 of the registration certificate if you drive a car which is coupled to a towing vehicle without prior inspection and approval. A towing vehicle may be a trailer, a working implement or a caravan. You must bring Part 1 or a copy of Part 1 of the registration certificate for both the car and the towing vehicle.

Abroad, you must always bring the original Part 1 of the registration certificate in your car.

You should not keep the entire registration certificate permanently in the car because when you have both Part 1 and Part 2, it is possible to re-register the vehicle to for example another owner.

Changes made to the vehicle do not automatically generate a new registration certificate. So, if you would like a new registration certificate, you will have to order one via the Register of Motor Vehicles.
