If the number plate at the rear of your car is covered fully or partially, you need an extra number plate (third number plate) with red letters and numbers. This could be necessary if you have a cycle carrier covering your number plate.

The price of a third number plate is DKK 110, and the processing time is approximately 14 days.

Log on to the Register of Motor Vehicles to order a third plate

You can order the number plate at one of our vehicle registration offices if you simultaneously register the vehicle, or from the Register of Motor Vehicles via E-tax:

  1. Log on E-tax (TastSelv)
  2. Select ‘Motorregistret' (Register of Motor Vehicles)
  3. Click ‘Plader', (Plates), Bestil specialplader' (Order special plates) and ‘Bestil 3. Nummerplade' (Order third number plate).
  4. The system will then need you to enter a check figure (also called check, kodedel 1 or kodedel 2 in Danish) which you find on your registration certificate.
  5. Complete your order.

You decide if you want to collect the number plate at one of our vehicle registration offices or if you want us to send it to you for a delivery charge of DKK 38.

The primary owner of the vehicle can follow the order under ‘Vis status på pladebestillinger' (Show order status).

The status will be changed once the number plate has been dispatched, and from that day it may take up to ten working days before the owner receives the number plate.
