When you first start receiving a state education grant (SU), we are automatically informed so that you pay the correct amount of tax. The Danish Agency for Institutions and Educational Grants informs us about the size of your grant.

This means that no action is required on your part.

Your educational grant will appear from field 306 of your preliminary income assessment.

This applies if you:

  • Turn 18 and start receiving a state education grant.
  • Start receiving a state education grant because you are studying.
  • Start receiving a state education grant after a gap year or other break (for instance between two educational institutions).

If you have gone from a job or other income to receiving an educational grant, you can read more about what you should do at Going from full-time job to studying.

If you are a non-Danish citizen, you can read about the rules and how to apply for educational grants here.

Please contact the Danish Tax Agency (Skattestyrelsen) if you have any questions.
