The Danish Customs Agency (Toldstyrelsen) carries out checks of postal items arriving into Denmark or leaving Denmark. Postal items include letters, parcels and items sent by courier. All postal items sent to or from Denmark may be subject to checks, regardless of whether the countries of origin or countries of destination are EU or non-EU countries.

The purpose of these checks is to examine postal items for prohibited goods such as narcotics, performance-enhancing drugs and certain weapons. We also examine whether you are liable to declare the goods.

We open postal items during spot checks on the basis of a risk assessment or if detection dogs or other technical examinations indicate that this is necessary.

All letters and parcels opened by the Danish Customs Agency will be resealed with blue adhesive tape reading "Examined by Customs".

You can read more about the rules on customs checks of letters and parcels in the Danish Customs Act (Toldloven). Please note that the link is in Danish.
