As the buyer you are responsible for re-registering or deregistering your new vehicle within four weekdays from the time of purchase.
Re-registering a vehicle in the Register of Motor Vehicles
As the new owner, you can re-register your vehicle in the Register of Motor Vehicles. In order to do so, you need the registration certificate and your MitID.
However, you cannot re-register lorries, tractors, motorised equipment, semi-trailers, trailers for tractors and trailer equipment in the Register of Motor Vehicles. Instead, you need to appear in person at a number plate provider (enter your postal code to find the one nearest to you) or in one of our vehicle registration offices.
Here is what you do:
- Log on to E-tax (TastSelv)
- Select ‘Motor' (Motor) and ‘Motorregistret' (Register of Motor Vehicles).
- Select 'Registrering' (Registration) and 'Privat ejer/brugerskifte' (Private change of ownership/user). Then click on ‘Start burger-/ejerskifte' (Begin change of ownership/user).
- Enter registration or vehicle identification number.
- Unlock the vehicle by means of a check figure (in Danish: kontroltal or kodedel 1 and 2 from the registration certificate).
- Add possible other users or owners who have given you a power of attorney for this purpose.
- Select insurance company and select ‘Anmod om forsikring' (Request insurance) (on rare occasions, you need to enter insurance policy number).
- Select ‘Godkend registrering' (Approve Registration).
- Make the payment
- Select ‘Videre' (Continue) and print your receipt.
You will receive a new registration certificate by regular post within two weeks. Periodic taxes will be sent to the primary user of the vehicle.
Once you have approved your registration, you cannot cancel or change it. If you make a wrong entry, you will have to pay for a new change of ownership/user).
