Get a tax card

You need a tax card when you work in Denmark. If you do not have one, you pay 55% tax of your salary.

A digital tax card

A tax card is digital and tells your employer how much tax you should pay. We make it and send it to your employer.

What you need to do

You can ask your employer to help you get a tax card. You can apply for one by logging on to skat.dk/tastselv or you can complete our digital form.

How to get a tax card via skat.dk/tastselv

When you generate your own tax card via skat.dk/tastselv, you have to state your expected salary for the rest of the year.

This is what you do:

  1. Log on at skat.dk/tastselv
  2. Select ‘Forskudsopgørelsen’ (Tax budget)
  3. Select ‘Nyt job’ (New job)
  4. Go to ‘Lønindkomst mv’ (Earned income etc.) and enter your expected salary before tax (gross salary) for the rest of the year
  5. Select ‘Indkomst og betalt skat indtil ændring’ (Income and tax paid until change)
  6. Select your first working day under ‘Skattekort gyldigt fra (dag og måneed)’ (Tax card valid from (day and month)
  7. Select ‘Beregn’ (Calculate)
  8. Select ‘Godkend’ (Accept)
  9. Log off at skat.dk

You have now generated your tax card. Your employer will be informed automatically, so there is nothing else to do.

Getting a tax card via our digital form

You need a photo or a pdf of these documents before you can use the digital form:

Employment contract or confirmation of employment

  • All pages of your contract or confirmation of employment in one file.
  • The document must be signed by you and your employer.

Marriage certificate if you are married

  • All pages of your marriage certificate in the original language.

Get a 'NemKonto'

All citizens in Denmark need to have a 'NemKonto'. This is an normal bank account to where you get any payments from the public authorities, such as tax we owe you.

You can register a Danish or Ukrainian bank account as your NemKonto.

Register a Danish bank account

Contact a Danish bank to set up a bank account. The bank will register your bank account as your NemKonto.

Register a Ukrainian bank account

You can use your digital signature, NemID or MitID, to register your Ukrainian bank account as your NemKonto. How to register your non-Danish bank account as your NemKonto (nemkonto.dk)

Get a reminder about your tax

We would like to send you an email or text message to remind you to check or correct your tax matters.

Get a reminder

  1. Log on to skat.dk
  2. Select ’Ret kontaktoplysninger’ (Correct contact details)
  3. Enter your email address under ‘Mailadresse’ (Email address) and ‘Gentag mailadresse’ (Repeat email address)
  4. Enter your phone number under ’Mobilnummer’ (Mobile no.) and ’Gentag mobilnummer’ (Repeat mobile no.)
  5. Select ’Gem’ (Save)
  6. Log out

We will now send you an email and/or a text message when you have important messages about your tax or your deductions.

You are now ready for your first day at work

You have now settled everything and are ready for your first day at work.

Get a tax card and a personal tax number (CPR number)

You need a tax card when you work in Denmark. If you do not have one, you pay 55% tax of your salary.

Because you do not have a residence permit yet, we will also make a personal tax number (CPR number) for you. This number is your personal identification number.

A digital tax card

A tax card digital and it tells your employer how much tax you should pay. We make it and send it to your employer.

A personal tax number is your personal ID number

All Danish authorities, banks, doctors and employers use your personal tax number (CPR number) to identify you. We make the number and send it to your employer who will then give it to you.

Your personal tax number (CPR number) consists of 10 digits. The first 6 digits are your birthday (day, month, year) and the last 4 digits are random. Example 010185-1234.

What you need to do

You will get a tax card and a personal tax number (CPR no.) by completing our digital form. You can ask your employer to help you.

You need a photo or a pdf of these documents before you can use the digital form:

Passport or national ID card

  • A photo of the page in your passport with all your personal information or a photo of the front and the back of your national ID card.
  • You ID card must be issued by a public authority.
  • The card must state your name, date and place of birth, gender, citizenship and expiry date.
  • The photo or copy should be legible, in colour and show the entire document.

Marriage certificate if you are married

  • All pages of your marriage certificate in the original language.
