How to deregister your business for excise duties

If you close your business

Please note: If you close your business, your business is automatically deregistered for excise duties as well.

If your business will no longer be trading in excisable goods, you must deregister your business accordingly.

Await confirmation of the deregistration in your business’s Digital Post

Please note that your excise duty deregistration has not been registered until you have received confirmation from us in your business’s Digital Post.

However, the excise duty deregistration applies from the day on which you choose to deregister at virk.dk.

Remember to declare for the entire period

If you deregister for an excise duty in the middle of a period, you still have to declare for the entire period.

For example, if you deregister for the excise duty on 17 May, you must declare for the period 1–31 May. Even if your business has not had excisable activity during the period, you still need to submit a declaration. In this case, you must declare DKK 0.
