When your child gets a tax assessment notice (årsopgørelse)
Children and young people are liable to pay tax if, for example, they:
- have an after-school job;
- own shares and other securities and receive returns on them;
- receive pension (for example from a deceased parent);
- earn money from gaming, participation in e-sports, as YouTuber, influencer and more.
As a parent, you are responsible for handling your child’s tax affairs, checking the tax assessment notice and the like.
All children/young people used to get a tax assessment notice when they turned 15. In 2026, this was changed so your child get a tax assessment notice the year it turns13.
In 2025 it was introduced that no matter how old your child is it will get a tax assessment notice if we know of relevant taxable income.
This also applies even if it's rare children pay A-tax as they will be using their tax exemption card - for after-school jobs for example.
It's your responsibility as a parent to contact us if your child has taxable income and your child doesn't get a preliminary income assessment (forskudsopgørelse) or a tax assessment notice (årsopgørelse). This could be income earned as a YouTuber, influencer or non-Danish interest income or similar.
