Get started on VAT

What is VAT?

VAT is an abbreviation for 'Value-Added Tax' and it's a tax on the sale and purchase of goods and services.

In Denmark, the VAT rate is generally 25% of the value of the goods or services. If you trade with other countries, the VAT rate may be different.

Do I need to pay VAT?

You need to pay VAT if you trade goods or services for over DKK 50,000 annually. Additionally, you must also pay tax on your business profit.

It's your responsibility to report and pay VAT. We don't get the information automatically. Remember to report VAT even if you don't buy or sell goods or services in a given period. In that case, you must report DKK 0 DKK.

Some services, such as those in the health or education sectors, are exempt from VAT.

Take charge of your VAT deadlines

Most businesses report and pay VAT either quarterly or every 6 months. It also depends on:

  • Your turnover
  • If you have applied for a specific interval
  • If you have traded outside Denmark

Check which deadlines apply to you

Report on time and avoid fees

If you report late, we will charge you a fee of DKK 800.
